How to say “I don't understand” in Egyptian Arabic

In Cairo you say mesh fahem (مش فاهم). Tap play to hear it, then slow it down.

Read it your way:

  • mesh fahem / mesh fahmaمش فاهم / مش فاهمةI don't understand (said by a man / by a woman)

When to use it

Mesh fahem if you're a man, mesh fahma if you're a woman. Add “momken te3id?” (can you repeat?) and people will happily slow down for you.

Say it out loud in a 6-minute lesson

“mesh fahem” is in Unit 1, Downtown: “Yes, no & I don't understand”. That unit is free. Practise with Egyptian audio, pronunciation feedback and an AI partner that talks like a Cairene.
