How to say “thank you” in Egyptian Arabic

In Cairo you say shokran (شكراً). Tap play to hear it, then slow it down.

Read it your way:

  • shokranشكراًThank you

When to use it

Shokran is the everyday thank-you for waiters, drivers and friends. Make it bigger with “shokran awi” (thanks a lot) or “shokran ya basha” to a man you're chatting with.

Say it out loud in a 6-minute lesson

“shokran” is in Unit 1, Downtown: “Please, thanks & sorry”. That unit is free. Practise with Egyptian audio, pronunciation feedback and an AI partner that talks like a Cairene.
